When it comes to capturing baby pictures, you must always be aware of the perfect angle to go with the entire shoot. There are many ways of capturing photos from quite varied perspectives. This article lists the ways Annie Kinser Photography to help you to capture pictures of babies at different angles. Find out more here on these tips.

  1. Get on their level

This is the most common rule in newborn photography. The best angle is to always level yourself with the baby. As much as it is common to level up with the baby, it is probably the best one as well to take portrait shots to create the distance from the baby as well as your camera. We recommend you to use Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II USM Lens as it is perfect with zoom in shots as its f/2.8 max aperture lets you capture even in the low light and adds more to the shallow depth of the field that tends to blur the background from the main focus of the photo, means the baby. Getting on the baby’s level helps in creating a dramatic and personal approach.

  1. Over the shoulder

This is a rare angle but a creative one. Use a 50mm lens to let you use a wide aperture letting more light to come in and prevent the use of shutter or a flash that would generally startle the baby. Secondly, use the 50mm f1.8 lens, and then go down and put your stance to the baby’s shoulder while the baby is sitting down and staring at the photo of their parents or grandparents or sitting down and playing with their favorite toy. Include a part of the baby in the shot by around 1/4th of their side but focus on the subject that the baby is indulged with.

  1. Lie low

This is another common rule for newborn photography to get closer, lie down as low as the carpet and shoot from that very angle. This will raise your chances of getting the most creative shots of the baby. One trick to do this is by using a wide lens with large aperture to let you shoot in low light and shoot the busy moments that would be perfectly still and clear with no need of using the flash. In order to get closer, use a Nikon 60mm f/2.8G AF-S ED as it will give you a mega zooming feature as well as a silent wave motor technology that lets you autofocus silently on the sleeping babies.

  1. Bird’s eye view

Last but not the least, a faraway angle is also the one to consider. It doesn’t take away the emotion or the personal feel as you will still be shooting the baby as per their daily interest or routine. When you take the bird’s eye view, you will get an overview of their activities like napping, playing, bathing etc. simply climb up to a level like on a chair or stool to get the shot. This shot also needs a load of negative space. Make the most of the landscape with the wide sky for the background.
